Detroit, Michigan Hospice Care

There are many myths about hospice care. One myth is that patients can only receive hospice care for a maximum of six (6) months. This is not true. A patient can continue to receive hospice care as long as certain guidelines are met, which is determined by the hospice team and the patient's attending physician. The average time a patient spends in hospice care is a little over 2 months, but nationally about 12% of patients receive care for longer than 6 months. About the same percentage are actually discharged from hospice care because they got better, decided to resume curative care, or moved to another location.

Choosing a hospice program can be challenging. Fortunately, the Detroit area offers many hospices from which to choose.
